On January 22nd 2012, the UK was treated to a fantastic display of the Aurora Borealis, with Northumberland being exceptionally privileged with perfect, clear weather conditions. Few people managed to see this chance occurrence and even fewer managed to capture it in its true glory. I was fortunate enough to do just that and took this photograph on Embleton Beach, with the Aurora reflected in the wet sands. This image was viewed over 5 000 times in the week after I captured it and has been linked by websites all over the world.
